ANN WALTERS | Advisory board

A native New Orleanian, creativity was woven into Ann’s life from an early age. Her mother and grandmother made many of their clothes, and some of her earliest and most formative experiences were spent designing garments alongside her mother—studying patterns, selecting fabrics, and refining details until each piece felt complete.

Ann carried her natural affinity for textiles and transformation forward, shaping it into a career in film. She has lent her creative hand to a range of high-profile series, including NCIS: New Orleans and Legacies. Her work on Legacies was particularly rewarding, allowing her to explore the fantasy genre by designing and creating mythical creatures in close collaboration with the creature effects makeup team. She was honored to be nominated alongside her colleague and mentor, Alonzo Van Wilson, for a Costume Designers Guild Award for her work on the critically acclaimed HBO series, Treme.

When she’s not on set, Ann can be found dancing down the parade routes with the Sirens dance troupe, volunteering in her New Orleans community, or wandering through nature in quiet wonder, head in the trees and eyes on the birds, curiosity fully engaged.

Alma Russell | Advisory board

Alma is a graduate of Murray State University and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health (OSH). After five years as a safety manager for one of the country’s largest electrical contractors, Rosendin Electric, Alma went on to public service working for the City of Pasadena Water and Power Department as the Utility Safety Officer. In 2019, Alma founded The Modern Safety Institute, an OSH consulting firm, as an answer to the needs of the labor market. By nature, Alma is a curious observer, captivated by the sound and flight of birds.  Most days, you can find Alma contemplating in nature, binoculars in hand.
